got a postcard from my old buddy casey cainan today, via montana

made me feel good,

here's a few things that used to make me feel good

when i was a kid i used to love the feeling of running down the hallway in my pajamas on saturday morning, i was really fast down our hallway, just to jump in front of the tv and watch cartoons

when i got a little older, sometime in elementary, i remember feeling real good when i knew i was going home with no homework, because i could then play outside until dark

high school, i used to love friday mornings darning football season, especial mr. byrds class, on gameday i kinda always got this free pass, i had to do nothing, mr. byrd would look at me with this grin and ask me, "you boys gonna do it tonight?"

as i got older, it always felt good when i had atleast a half of tank of gas, a case of beer, good tunes, one of my wicked cool friends, and i still had about 40 bucks in my pocket...hell yea

and as i got older, i love betting the over in a game, and hitting it sometime in the 3rd quater

but last night i realized a brand new thing that brings me much peace and well being, i stood and watched abe taylor sleep for about 5 minutes, that was cool my friend, very cool

i want to say thanks to chad farris for all his help this past weekend, he is a stand up dude

cowboys just scored, as i'm typing these words

that's good

played for the first time full band at the vault, last night, me and the boys had a great time, lots of fun, but then again we just love to play, we have fun anywhere

seen some old friends i haven't seen in a while, i bet there was somewhere in the nieborhood of 200 folks in there, at one point you couldnt get thru the front door,

end of the night i'm handed 198 bones (don't know how they got that # out of multiples of 5) but anyway, their telling me about 38 and ahalf people payed out of what i estame around 200...wtf

we had a good time playing our songs, because i play with some top notch cool ass cats, lp, ballgame, and wayner

lesson was learned

see ya,
but it wont be at the vault

say it aint so, bledsoe

he must be color blind,

finally got back down to waco this past weekend, to the lakeside tavern, and had us a fine time, hopefully got us a new venue to start working on, we had several folks in the crowd that new our stuff,

jack mcvey, sat in on drums with us, and done an excellent job, super cool old vet on the kit, i think he said he was 50 something, did a fine job, thank you jack

got to hang with the cool folks from www.radiofreetexas.org those girls have helped us out so much, last week we had 2 tunes in the top 50,

tallman - 18
the vet- 46

thank you carrie jo, karen, and cara, for all you do

casey kelly and his band played with us and were a very tough act to follow, hope to be doing some more shows with those cats, checkem out if you get a chance

now for the ride home,

well the plan is to stay focused, help each other out, and drive back home after the gig, because i had to play at 3 today in paris, well we get in the van and lp takes the fetal position, my wife is stretched out in the back, so i'm behind the wheel, but that's cool because i got mr. conversation himself riding shotgun, johne ballgame.....before we leave waco ballgame's got his mouth wide open, eyes glued shut, and head back against the seat, so i put in todd snider's new record, by the way is awesome, and play it over and over untill we get home at 6:40 this morning,

oh yea ballgame woke up in time to talk me in to a wrong exit,

played to day at the elks lodge in paris, a benifit for a friend of mine, it's good to get jam with all the local bands in town, we got some good ones

that reminds me, ballgame woke up and said this too, "texas is too big, to bad we're not in gigin in maine or some other small state all the time, but they might not have enough bars" i looked at john and said," yea"

and he closed his eyes again, but the dude can play a guitar like ringing a bell

felt so good to stay home today and do nothing, no rushing to get all my stuff together, to go somewhere, and as of right now i am in absolute no danger of having a hangover tomorrow,

had a real good weekend, played lots of songs, and more importantly, we moved lots of product

i played a song swap with shad and Wesley joe on wednesday night, those boys are top notch at making up songs, and we had us a very cool crowd to sing to

thursday me and shad hung out in holly bond, shad recorded 10 new tunes, and lanny just happened to be the only guy watching the store, so i got to engineer the project, which consisted of me sitting in the room with all the nobs and pointing at shad thru the big glass when it was time for him to start another tune, all the while i was drinking orange gatorade and rubbing my head...the night before kicked my ass

then me and the band had 2 good gigs in a row, played with the exit 110 band, good cats, go check em out if you get a chance, they believe in the original tune, and i do too

talked at my old buddy casey cainan today, he was in north dakota, says he will be back around here in early november, and ready to make a new record, he is a song writing maniac, says he gets his inspiration from elephant shit, i might have to try that, because the dog shit aint working

speaking of

adam walker comes out to the house the other day (adam is that crazy guy in the miles from nowhere band) he's got his beagle pup with him, my 2 dogs are about to rip him apart, so i tell adam to bring him in the house, well we turn our back and the dog shits on the tile, adam cleans it up, we sit down to talk, and shad points out that the dog just pissed on the big screen....what the hell

and the first thing adam said was, "man he ain't never done this"

but back to casey,

he said he walked in a music store in montana a few weeks ago, seen a picture of townes van zandt on the wall, he got to talking to the guy that ran the place and come to find out they were old friends (tvz and the guy that runs the joint) then the guy walks in the back and comes back with an old gibson hummingbird that used to belong to the man himself, casey said he sit down and played marie on it

how cool is that my friend

thursday night love and war in grapevine, come watch miles from nowhere get it on

they win, we win, thats the way it works
