shakin the cob webs,

i remember climbing up in charles last night, and the boys started watching joe dirt (waynes favorite flick) and that's about it

so let's see if i can recap

2 days

thursday night we had dillions here in paris plum packed full of homers
i think if the right guy walked in (like the fire marshall) he would have had to shut us down

killer crowd

john pittman set in with us on guitar again, and done a fine job,

but i do believe the treat of the night was at the end, when the old three piece, pauls interview, jammed

enjoyed that

last night we played shooters in gainsville, and had lots of shots and beer, i remember looking at lane in the middle of the 2nd set and telling him "i think i just got drunk"

lane says "me too"

great venue, cool crowd, looking forward to going back,

tonight we will be heading to hanks over in mckinney, to play with 1100 springs

gonna be another good one

happy thanksgiving to you,

the house is quiet, and it's halftime in the boyz game, so i thought i would do some bloggin,

thanksgiving was a little empty this year, first one since we lost my sweet grandmother last march, i could sure tell the difference,

it's funny how a little 90 pound woman kinda held everything together,

but i did get this cool picture in my head
that i plan on holding on to forever,

my little boy crawls over to his great granddaddy, and pulls up to the chair he's setting in, and one of abe taylor's feet stood on top of pop's,

abe taylors first turkey day,
and his great granddad's 85th,

i hope everyone has a good one,
and tell somebody you love them

adios

granny's love
written by me

little house on the prairie
turned down real low,
and i'm all strecthed out
in the living room floor

my granny's tip toeing around
just as quiet as she can
trying not
to make a noise

and this house feels
just like a big ol blanket,
full of love
when your a scared little boy

and my granny knows how
to make me feel
just like i'm the only one
in this whole wide world

cause there ain't nothing like my granny's touch
she knows just how to make me feel,
no there ain't nothing like my sweet granny's love,
i'm talking about a love that's real

well the years went by
and i guess
i just got to big
for laying on my granny's floor

next thing you know
i ain't seen her in
2 or 3 weeks
and sometimes maybe more

but it never failed
just as soon as she
laid eyes on me
she'd say "boy come give your granny a hug"

and there be light
come on down in her soul
the kinda light
that gives your heart a tug

cause there ain't nothing like my granny's touch,
she knows just how to make me feel,
and there ain't nothing like my sweet granny's love,
i'm talking about a love that's real

hey granny
i got somebody
that you ain't never met
and they say he looks just like me

and last night he rolled over
for the first time all by himself
and i know
you wee there to see

cause there ain't nothing like my granny's touch,
she knows just how to make me feel,
and there ain't nothing like my sweet granny's love,
i'm gonna tell abe taylor, how it was real

"i'm settin at home on a sunday night
watchin the late late show
a bottle of wine, and a pack of smokes
i got no place to go"

let's see here, friday night we had a real good hometown crowd at the crosswire, and our friends catfish special done a fine job getting the crowd all juiced up for us,

good to see the hometown crowd -aka- homers
good to see the homers

last night we played over at the players club in mt. vernon,
now under new management,
bob,
he looks kinda like porky, from the old classic porky's
he had on one of those old guy bowling shirts, and lots of gold, 3 rings on his left hand and 2 more on his right, a chain around his neck, and a bad ass pen in his pocket also trimmed in gold (he was a better dresser than i remember old porky being)
when i met bob he seemed like he might be a hard case, he told me exactly when to start and when to stop, and by looking at bob i thought he might have been good friends with the guy who was yelling "play some country" on our last trip over,

but ol bob was cool as a fan

said he loved the music, and we will darken the doors again,

i thought it was cool when it came time to settle up he had a pocket full of napkins, and that's where he did all his figuring,

he pulls out 3 napkins
1 has what the bar ran (looked like chicken scratch from hell)
the 2nd had our tab
and the 3rd was where he showed me what we made, and how we did it,

and he follows it up with, (you got to love this)

"well i lost my ass, but it ain't your fault, you guys are great"

i think i would like to hang out with ol bob awhile

my boy's screaming
i must split

what's up yall

a couple of times in my life i have found myself addicted to a song, this is one of those times,

since i climbed up in charles after the gig last saturday night, i have been stuck on
track # 9
of
fred eaglesmith's
record called "balin"

the name of the tune is
"the rocket"
and i think it's one of the best tunes i've ever heard,
i've been hittin repeat every since saturday night,

songs like this
make me want to burn my guitar,

playing the x-wire friday night, it's always fun to spread out on a big stage,
saturday we'll be diving in mt. vernon at the players club, last time we were there, they stopped the show for a bikini contest, and we got heckled all night by some dude that kept hollering
"play some country"

looking forward to that

abe taylor gave me my first kiss tonight,

he opens his mouth up wide,
and comes crashing in,

it's pretty cool,

see ya friday or saturday

son, could you help me on this platform
i'm not so good at climbing stairs
i brought me a drink and some sandwiches
i just want to sit and watch the trains

i come down here almost every sunday
my grandkids, they used to come too
now they drop me off at the front gate
i guess that they got better things to do

number 47 she's a good one
number 63 sings like a bird
but number 29 that's the one they call the rocket
that's the saddest train i ever heard

son, i'm a decorated veteran
i fought in what they called the great war
i used to believe in everything it stood for
i don't believe in much anymore

son, you look just like my boy
he stood here almost forty years today
he looked so good in that brand new soldiers uniform
but that rocket never brought him back again

number 47 she's a good one
number 63 sings like a bird
but number 29 that's the one they call the rocket
that's the saddest train i ever heard

the change in the weather's got me reelin

i guess i been sleeping with my mouth open too much
or just staring at stuff with my mouth open too much

we played mt. pleasant on friday, it was good to see some of our friends that made it out, jerry and jimmy from hugh springs,

i'd rather been sittin in jerry's backyard
much cooler than a smoky bar
and you can bet your ass
you won't get over charged

now i would like to take this time to apologize to lp, eric, and wayner,
for leading you boys down dark alleys, without a bat
we have nothing left to prove
we just have our music to play
no polish no shine
just our music
the way we play it...

no more contests for the mob

good to see my friends eric and gayla burns on friday night, they made the drive up from schertz to watch us, we appreciate it

after the gig me and eric cruised up to the metroplex, and crashed at a friends house, thank you for the floor space and the muffins for breakfast...officer

then we headed to bill's tapes and records for another little 2pc jam, i always have fun at bill's, i like it when i leave and bill always says "come back anytime, your always welcome" bill's been around and seen lot's of pickers, i'm honored that he digs my stuff,

good to see my boy little john and his family, thanks for stopping by

now the weekend gets a little hairy

lp and wayne join up with me and eric at grapevine sat. night, and we had our best crowd to date, drank a bunch of beer from a thermos, and i visited for a while with austin allsup and his crew, traded cd's and that kind of stuff

and by the way his cd is killer check him out www.austinallsup.com

when the gigs over me and lp, and jacob hooker cruise back to paris for about 3 hours of sleep, then we pyle back in the van and head to memphis, to pick up the 52 les paul from my buddy
shad, we need the axe for the video that we are about shoot

hang for a while in memphis, see the famous sun studio, where mr. cash and elvis laid down some of there gold, then we stood out in the parking lot of an irish pub while my boy shad blair laid one of his new tunes on us, it was killer

then me and lp, and jacob hooker get back in charles and come on home, got home about 2 this morning

work sucked
all day

thank you lp, jacob hooker, fred eagelsmith, todd snider, guy clark, bob dylan, casey canain, chis knight, slobberbone, hayes carll, mr. cash, and even guns and roses, and that oldie station we picked up this side of texarkana,

i would have never made it without you
