another blog

been awhile since my last one,
played a cool gig last night at hanks, played with level rout and those mfn boyz, damn good to see those bands, super tight and well worth the price of addmision, i told pruitt we needed to look into some kinda music festaval here in town, cause we got such the kick ass bands

anyway, the days are getting hot, my back is getting soar, my truck quit on me today, me and a.t. had to hike around the loop, i've slep about 6 hours in the last 60, i got 2 stray dogs dumped out at my house...that makes 4 in all now

i took the far back seat and rod drove and in between dozing and all the crazyness in the van on the ride home last night, i notice jacob "shipwreck" shipman tryin to wrestle wayne out of his seat as he is steady texting someone (never misses a beat, g.w. is so good at that texting) lane is riding shotgun with a motorcyle helmet on, sun shades, and he is polishing off the last of the whiskey, the whole time rod is yaking about making bombs...now how can i rest with all this shit going on

back in the swamp

nothin compares to my little boy runnin at me yellin daddy daddy, after i have'nt seen him in 5 days

i ran across 1 bad ass band in nashvill, called jypsi, they are a brother and 3 sisters, and they put on one hell of a show, i ran across them on sunday night at this little bar called layla's on broadway, come to find out they play there 6 nights a week and have been for about 3 years,so i went back and watched them again on tuesday, but they just signed a record deal with arista records and are soon to hit the road, it was cool to see them sweatin and playing from thier heart for tips, in a small old bar, for 4 hours, by far the best band i seen check em out at www.jypsi.net they did several gram parson tunes in thier set

i met some cool songwriters trin to get goin worth checkin out one of them is www.myspace.com/joehashmusic, the other is a girl from missiouri who played one of the best songs i've heard in awhile called "corn and hell" check her out at www.myspace.com/oliviawestmusic

i walked 16th and looked up those lights, no record companies would let me in, i tried, but i did see some cool ass stuff, i dropped some cd's off at grimmeys (the famous record store, almost as cool as bill's, not quiet) i also gave a cd to a nice guy i set with for awhile on a bench as he waited on the bus, he was a hard working dude (i could tell by lookin at him) said he just got out of a halfway house, and he had been in prison a couple of times,and.... since i had just walked all around music row and could'nt even get the door slammed in my face (because they would'nt even let me in, they had the door bell thing going on, you know i ring the bell, they say "may i help you" i say "yes i'm a songwriter and i was wondering if you had anyone around that might be able to listen to few tunes" and they say " sorry no unsolicited music" and thats it) so i gave chris a couple of cd's, and he seemed glad to get em, i hoped he enjoyed em when he got home, and i hope he stays out of prison

then i took a cab to grimmey's (the famous record store) the bus thing was real confusing, come to find out grimmey's was in a not so tourist friendly side of town, and my cab was gone, and in a not so friendly side of town you cant just walk out and find a cab, anywhere, so i walked a few blocks to burger king, the craziest burger king i have ever seen, employees fightin, orders gettin messed up, customers arguing, i finally seen a cab at a exxon a few blocks over, his name was rahib and he laughed his ass off at me

but i must say it was all worth it just to go stand in that alley behind tootsies, where the legend tells before and after johnny cash or hank sr. played there gig at the ryman the would slip through the back door of tootsies and have a drink....well i went and stood there, matter of fact i was the second person in the door that morning, they opend at 10,

oh well
glad to back where it's real
i think the man in black would like here better today as well

i-30

mowed the old yard today, not so bad now that i have an ipod,

had a blast last night at buffalo joe's, the best stage i have ever stepped foot on,(burns welding and fabrication) my friends john cherry and justin bowerman opend the show, couple of smooth young songwriters with something to say,

i live out in the great wilderness, and i have 2 crazy dogs, always draggin up something dead, today it was a coon, a big one...i didnt want to hit it with the murray, so i had to hold my breath and scoop him up with the shovel, walk him across the yard, and throw him across the street, since i was out there i thought i'd check the mail, and i noticed i had been had again, there's a big dent in the side of my mail box, (i know that dent, beer bottle, good shot) wont even close now, this is the 4th time in 5 years, but at least it's still standing, so after i look at it for a second, all i can do is laugh, because i know i deserve it, i could tell mailbox stories for a month

playing dillions this wenseday night july 4th, and everybody goes back to work on thursday, (great booking job there oneal) so maybe we'll just play half throttle, then we got 2 nights in rockwall, at the boot and scoot (look out now) friday and saturday, dont show up unless you are ready to dance, i'm ready

sunday me and steph are flying to nashville, she has to work, i have to play (not gigs, just around) i called the lady at the bluebird cafe, i told her how i write songs, and i play gigs, and have cd's, and i sell those cd's, to anybody and everybody that want's one, and i'm coming from a long ways away, and i've never been there, and i don't know when i might be coming back, sooooo what can i do to play the open mic at the historic bluebird cafe?

she replys, with know care what soever in her voice, be here at 5oclock on monday, put your name in the hat, and we will see if we pull it,

hell that's fair enough for me

took me a day to get back to normal, if i can call it that, but here i am, i mean,

"here i am on my way,
down another road i have paved,
and every good intention i've saved,
and heart that i've broke,
as for me i got scars,
for every mile i've traveled so far and some blood on my hands,
here i am " steve earle

we played over at hanks last saturday, always have a good time thier, thanks to david and tommy for treatin us so cool

woke up sunday and headed south to austin, i actually found shad's house this time without having to call first, i've been there 20 or 30 times but it's usualy dark, or i'm in the back of the van, and his hood is real confusing, and i dont really pay very close atention to some things, and too close atention to others,

i always have a good time at shad's, it takes me back to my wilder days when my front door was always open and there was always someone comin over all hours of the day and night, except shad's pad is full of musicans, all styles, so there's so many creative vibes in the place, a guitar in every corner of the room, somebody walkin around talking to himself you might think (but he's just working on a tune) pyles of cd's in the floor from thier friends, it's just a cool ass town for that kind of stuff, and crashin on shad's couch is about as close as i get to it,

me and rod played sunday at the lonestar floathouse in new braunfels, and i met one of the coolest dudes i have yet to come across in my musical travels, mr. terry gillespie, he runs the joint, and it's a top shelf venue,

i woke up monday on shad's couch hurtin all over (shots and couches and 31 years = pain) and i notice some dude on the other side of the room, in a towel, shivering, kinda funny i thought

turned out to be another friend i've met thru shad, who got rained out that morning, and his clothes were soaked, so he thru them in the dryer,

he asked if i cared if he turned the fan off,
i said, go ahead,

what's up, just had one of the best weekends we've had in awhile, (my opinon) actuly the last 2 weeks have been killer, i have not blogged in awhile....the weather

so 2 weeks ago we went down south to the radio free float trip in new braunfels, and met some very cool people had a great time, i done a radio interview (while i was a little tipsy) that should be interesting, probably never heard,we slowed down in atown and picked up mr. blair, he played video man/guitar tech for the evening, after the gig we had to roll back home, got here about sun up, it was either come on home that night and sleep all day in our own beds, or sleep in the floor at shad's house and then drive all the way home and get here just intime for our gig at buffalo joe's, it was a surprise bday party for some real good friends of ours whos bday's are all the same, had a blast

this week we last minute booked a gig at dillions, turned into a real good crowd that had alot of fun with us, and kept buying me shots, therefor my saturday was pretty much ruined, we played t-bones saturday night, had the best crowd i can ever remember havibg over there, i drank a beer when i got there, because lp ordered it for me when i was in the restroom, and i drank a beer when the show was over, because i felt like i needed it, and that was it, kinda different, but i felt good this morning, and the crowd last night at t-bones was great, makes the gigs worth it,

happy fathers day
and i'll see ya out there
